This has several ramifications. As pools form on the surface of glaciers the weight and increased temperature cause cracking of the underlying ice allowing water to seep to the junction between the glacier and the supporting rock. This water then acts as a lubricant causing the glacier to move more quickly. If it is an ice shelf it could break away and break the dam holding the glacier in place.

* Springtime is starting earlier, causing plants to bloom
earlier and changing the migrations of birds.

I wonder if Sandra has noticed this in her records.

* Many plants and animals are expanding their habitats into
mountainous regions and higher latitudes that are becoming milder.

Remember me asking David if he had noticed species creep in the forests he manages? He indicated that it was happening. More particular the movement of Armadillos to near the Missouri River.

We have had two choices, do nothing about global warming and do nothing. If global warming is just a natural trend and we do nothing, we will still have problems with low lying areas and increased storm power. If we do something as if it were man caused we may be able to learn a lot more about weather and save people and money. If it is man caused and we do nothing it will only get worse and we will still have the above problems. If we do something maybe we can slow something that is already a runaway train. So no matter what we should be doing something, not sticking our head in the sand of the barrier islands while tax dollars build even more expensive condos.

That is a really good question. Like so many other 'good' questions this one leads to more questions.
I have not seen a suggested solution that did not call for someone else to give something up.
"The Kyoto Protocol is an agreement under which industrialised countries will reduce their collective emissions of greenhouse gases by 5.2% compared to the year 1990".

What are YOU willing to give up, right now, to deal with the problem?
What have you already given up?
