I went to what is today a quaint "Elementary School" ... Kindergarten
through 8th Grade. We had a big graduation ceremony from that school,
where I was fortunate enough to give one of the graduation speeches.
Being last century, I don't recall much, but I do remember was my point
about the promise of bioengineered plants, particularly food. The
"Pomato" was in my mind... tomato on top, potato on the bottom. Science
was the key to the future.

Well, 30 years on and the world's scientists and researcher have become
(maybe always were) slaves of the corporations and government. Now,
viruses to kill the bacteria... That WAS something beyond my
imagination. I forget who wrote it, but maybe irradiation is the way to
go... Of course, being a luddite today, I would prefer to grown my
own...
