You do realize that it was illegal to observe Christmas in the colonies,
don't you?

America has always been a multi-cultural country, with many languages
spoken, but English still is the official language. To become a citizen,
you have to show a rudimentary understanding of English, including
answering some questions that many native-borne Americans don't know the
answers to. But there have always been non-English speaking homes and
communities.

"In God We Trust" didn't appear on coins until 1864.

The flag design has changed numerous times, including at least twice in my
life time as new states entered the Union.

We are a land of change and have not been static. Many of the things taken
for granted now were brought to this country by immigrants. Think of
horses, law, food, clothing, architecture, etc.

And some of us were standing on the shore watching the first European boats
land....
