Thnkpad 770E 266MHz 228MB RAM, lovely sound, volume dial. Crystal CS4237B (or similar) works with cs4232 (or cs4236 alsa) driver.

As usual, mplayer works offline (I had to change dma2 to 5 instead of 0 for some reason possibly related to booting via UBCD on this computer where hard drives won't boot) but crashes online

interrupted by signal 11 in module:open_stream

or other error messages. I tried several versions, one of which said it was not compiled for this CPU, 1.0pre7try2 with glibc236 and gcc from Slackware 11. I could not compile this using older gcc and I probably could not compile anything newer but I will check again. See archives.

I tested with pulp linux mplayer 1.0pre8 to see if the newer version would help, or if maybe it was compiled for my cpu. isa sound rarely works on first boot with puppy linux. I added a modprobe line to rc.local.

Mplayer worked fine online with direct mp3 URLs, and I could play all the shoutcast pls stations.

m3u does not work for me. Or wmp, or asx, etc. There were no longer many Realaudio links and I forgot to check that. I think they worked with this setup on other computers but it has been a while and my mplayer codecs may be out of date. Steven, can you use mplayer with m3u, asx, wma, ram? Many sites now require javascript (classicalwebcast.com), or flash.

Shoutcast offers three Serbian stations, Romanian, lots of Bollywood music, and a 1954 radio play. And much more I don't want to hear.

I used lynx by copying all the files directly from BL2 to pulp. (links would also work). Mplayer required about 20MB memory, lynx about 2MB. This will make a nice radio in 32-64MB total RAM, while I work on compiling a newer mplayer or one optimized for cpus in older high quality Thinkpads and Presarios. 266MHz is definitely fast enough.
