My 2.4 kernels work with loop BL3 as 'read only file system'.

I searched on 'Error 30 :R/O file system' and got only the thread I
started:

I found a Loopback Root Filesystem HOWTO from 1999 that says for kernel 2.2 to 2.2.10 and 2.3 you need to patch main.c by adding three lines. Did you do that for 2.2.26 as well, Steven? Is it required for 2.4?

I have already configured the kernel as they said to (BLK_DEV_RAM, INITRD, LOOP, FAT, MSDOS all Y).

The HOWTO also explained how to boot linux from a loop filesystem within DOS, from hard disk with loadlin, from floppy disk with loadlin, with lilo, from non-bootable CD-ROM (I did it from zip drive with loadlin off floppy disk, and from camera memory card after first booting to linux with syslinux, thanks to David Moberg).

A Loopback Encrypted Filesystem HOWTO also mentions a patch for 2.2.10.4.
The link is broken (not found).

Could I boot to ramdisk BL2 with 2.4.31 kernel, mount -o loop fs.img and chroot to BL3? (Not that I would want to set this up for another user).

Sindi
