Ignore. pcmcia_core was installed the previous time
you executed /etc/pcmcia/start

Right the foundation modules are in.

Thinkpads can be difficult. Old Thinkpads had nonstandard
floppy disks and required a special kernel parameter to run
Linux. I have no idea whether Thinkpads have nonstandard
PCMCIA hardware (but it wouldn't surprise me). I own four
different brands of laptops -- none of them is a Thinkpad.
