My 2.4 kernels work with loop BL3 as 'read only file system'. Where did I go wrong? (See my configla.431 and others, for bzimagla.431 and others).

I want to install loop BL3 with 2.4 kernel and an orinoco card for someone with Win95 that she does not want to give up and that I am hesitant to shrink, on a 120MHz Compaq (with unknown amount of memory, no USB, and no CD-ROM drive). Orinoco cards don't seem to work with 2.2. kernels, for two of us, on at least two laptops. Hers may have the same problem and she lives out of town, and I want to be prepared with something expected to work on the first try. 20MB should be enough if I upx opera binary (from 14MB to 5.7MB) and add no other programs. Un-upxed, opera 9.26 takes up 16MB total. Would it un-upx fast enough to be usable here? I think I can delete the plugins directory (300K) and 323K of standard skin. I can even shorten english.lng by removing comments. I can get it to 10MB total.

iwconfig can be used to specify WEP key. Do internet cafes or public libraries usually require that? The library here used to, but now you use library card number to sign up once instead. She wants to use it for traveling.
