Your card registers as a network card. That's
why the BL3 cardmgr was defaulting to the pcnet
module.

That's bad news. I was hoping it was a module
mismatch (which would have been easy to fix).
So you've got the correct modules and you've got
the correct config. The next issue is the kernel.
I assume you are using the default 2.2.26 kernel.
It is a slim kernel, with limited functionality.
It is possible that something needed by your card
is missing in that kernel. I suggest you try the
BL3 big kernel. If that fails, you should try a
2.4 kernel (perhaps from your Slackware installation)
with matching 2.4 modules.
