Can Sindi (or anyone else) confirm that the
BL3 (2.2.26) 3c59x module actually works?
It works perfectly with my card in BL3.50 with 2.2.26 p2 kernel.
What kernel is being used on the machine that it does not work with?
Oh, I meant to check on this ..
Just turned on my new (old) laptop, which I have BL 3.5 on.
Well, dmesg says
3c59x.c
eth0: 3Com 3c905C Tornado
My cards are I think all 3c905B.
3com actually provides 'unsupported' drivers at their site
(http://support.3com.com/infodeli/tools/nic/linux
You may need to agree to their GPL license.
3c90x-1.0.0i.tar.gz for 3c900B 905B 905C 980 980B 980C 982
kernel 2.2
and a later version for kernel 2.4 or SuSe 2.2.18
(maybe that means it was tested with these linuxes)
3c90x-1.0.0j.3-121-01.tar for Redhat also
3c09x-102.tar.gz for other linux for 3c900B 905B and C
Try your laptop with my 2.4.31 kernel and module for the card.
http://keesan.freeshell.org/bl/2.4.31
Any kernel there ought to work. The module is in modules package.
If you have dialup I can post it separately for you.
The only problems people mentioned for this chip were an old driver (1999) gave an irrelevant error message, and someone thought it was running slow. So it could be your hardware is the problem. Try a 3c905 card in a desktop with BL3.5.
uname -a says BasicLinux 2.2.26
3c59x.o is in /lib/modules/2.2.26/misc and is 29412 bytes
(sorry, don't know at the moment which kernel - I assume it was
the 458327
byte zimage )
Anything 2.2.26 from Steven ought to work.
Thanks,
Sheldon
