Well it seems that this mail was not sent. If you already got it I am sorry.

the spec is higher than i expected youd say and is way high enough to run
many linux distros isnt it, as long as those machines are not poor quality
or in poor condition.

People working with graphic wont vary fast machines I never had any problem with this
machines consider to be old here. The student even play "counter strike" on
them. But the machines that they want to keep here are the ones over 1 GHz
(1000 MHz)

why ubuntu though? its based on debian and im not
sure thats the best way to go (im a linux newbie but ive read a lot and am
now starting to dive into things) after trying to learn a bit using
basiclinux (BL3) which is based on slackware 4.0 i will then try to learn
more with the current slackware 11.0 distro. if youre interested take a look
at the sites http://www.slackware.com and
http://www.slackbook.org/html/book.html i have a good feeling about the way
patrick volkerding has coordinated the slackware project (since 1993) and
the Slackware Linux Essentials book looks excellent to me.

Discussing Linux destros can be very emotional. I like Slackware to. But when I read
beginners stuff Slackware are never recommended for the beginner cumming from a Windows
or Mac world it is known to be bit "nerdish". I know that Debian also is not
recommended for beginners but. Ubunto should be very good for beginners. I think Ubunto
is the most widely popular Linux Distro of the present time.
