the spec is higher than i expected youd say and is way high enough to run
many linux distros isnt it, as long as those machines are not poor quality
or in poor condition.

sorry i thought you were talking about a junior school where it might be a
case of "the more computers the better" but its good that you have a school
in mind for some of them. why ubuntu though? its based on debian and im not
sure thats the best way to go (im a linux newbie but ive read a lot and am
now starting to dive into things) after trying to learn a bit using
basiclinux (BL3) which is based on slackware 4.0 i will then try to learn
more with the current slackware 11.0 distro. if youre interested take a look
at the sites http://www.slackware.com and
http://www.slackbook.org/html/book.html i have a good feeling about the way
patrick volkerding has coordinated the slackware project (since 1993) and
the Slackware Linux Essentials book looks excellent to me.

anyway my ideas about disconnecting the bios battery or jumpers on those old
systems of yours; i think others have said the same in reply to you, but did
that work to clear the bios password??
