For reading fancy doc files, I use OpenOffice (on BL2).
So far OpenOffice has displayed everything perfectly,
but it is significantly bigger and slower than AbiWord.

How big?

The OpenOffice 1.1.5 package is an 80mb download.

It also wants at least 64MB RAM (version 2.0 wants 128MB RAM) and 256 colors and 800x600 resolution. And appears to come with database and spreadsheet programs. Is there no way to get just a linux wordprocessor that will let one view and edit all or most WORD files?

But it does work with glibc 2.1.3 (BL2).

Most people are willing to send me pdf files instead. And accept Wordperfect 5.1 for DOS, but the WORD import filters do not import tables correctly.
