See their list of supported devices here:
http://gphoto.sourceforge.net/proj/libgphoto2/support.php

Very impressive list.

"Kodak DC3200"

That's my digital camera. I've got the serial cable for it,
but the software is Windows (so I've never used the cable).
I get the photos by mounting the CompactFlash card (with BL3).

Do I understand correctly that gphoto2 would enable BL3
to use any of the cameras on that list (using the cable
that comes with the camera)?

Cheers,
Steven

About 4 years ago I compiled and posted photopc, which does serial camera downloads in linux (there is a precompiled DOS version that fits easily on a boot disk, about 60K) for certain cameras. It was an easy compilation (my first ever). It works with my Olympus D360L from the year 2000, which has a Smartmedia card and serial cable, and our 1995 Epson PhotoPC.

The serial download is quite slow, the CF adaptor much faster, especially if your camera takes photos of more than 640x480 resolution or has a large memory card.
