I suggest you use $* instead of $1 $2

For programs that take more than one argument?

And for executables that take no argument.

The $1 $2 works for xv without a file name specified, and for opera (but there is no way to enlarge the window to fill the screen without a window manager). 'x xv' or 'x opera'

Opera is the only X problem I have here that I would use much, and the only one that would benefit from saving 2MB, but it works better with icewm. Without a wm I need to use a mouse to change focus so I can enter a URL.

Opera is taking up 18.4% of 96MB when run at 1024 resolution. I will run it at 800x600 on the laptops and use a swapfile.

Cheers,
Steven
