The older gs will work on all ps files

I've been using ImageMagic to view ps files from pdftops.

I installed it once. It had a lot of dependencies.

The fonts.alias in BL3 /misc fonts directory lists about a page of:
-schumacher-clean-medium-r-normal
-b&h-lucidatypewriter-medium-r-normal
-adobe-helvetica-bold-r-normal ....
-adobe-courier-medium-r-normal-...
Was this added so that some program (Abiword?) would work properly

icewm needs some of those. AbiWord has its own fonts.

and if so could a few more similar lines be added

Yes.

to make xpdf work correctly with the existing fonts?

Perhaps. I don't know how xpdf uses fonts.
I know even less about it. ;=(

BL3 has no .pcf.gz fonts, just /100dpi/c0632bt_.pfb, an
Adobe Bitstream font. What is this used for in BL3?

That's a scalable font. It's used by MagicPoint.

I just copied over all the /75dpi fonts from BL2 and
pdftoppm still complains of no display fonts.

Are you sure that pdftoppm uses X fonts?

No, but it works in BL2 where I have installed xfnts.tgz and not in BL3, and xfnts.tgz contains helvetica, courier, times, and symbol. And you said it would work if I installed xfnts.tgz. I can try to find more info at the foolabs site.

Have you got Slackware 4.0 xpdf working in BL3?

Cheers,
Steven
