The source can be compiled with gcc 2.96 and glibc 2.2.5

Too much trouble. I wouldn't expect it to be a simple job.

They said you only had to edit a couple of files to specify binutils, gcc and glibc numbers. I might try this and call for help when needed.

anyone want to try this so as to avoid SW9.0?

Why avoid it? The Slackware 9 libraries install beautifully
on BL3. The proof of that is how easily we got QEMU working
even thoough it has many library dependencies.

The libraries (once you delete a lot of junk from SW81 glibc that is no longer included in the main SW91 glibc package) are quite a big larger and probably take up more RAM.

glibc 2.2.5 is already needed for Opera

I just downloaded the latest Opera static binary and it ran
right away on the BL3 I'm using for QEMU. I didn't have to
add a single package.

Kernel 2.4 is needed for the precompiled accelerator.

Really? Do they give a reason why?
No. 2.4 or 2.6.

Without the accelerator supposedly programs run 5 to 10 times more slowly, but DOS programs that worked at 8MHz should work fine at 1/10 of 100MHz.
And with 500K free RAM.

Cheers,
Steven
