xmms,
If this is a movie player use David's Mplayer static.

its a music player... im not a big fan of 'media' players... xmms for
music, xine for movies... the occasional times i watch movies on linux
anyway... movies are normally played with the wintendo through the
nvidia cards svideo connector on TV.... much nicer than a monitor...

I don't need X to play music or movies with Mplayer. Does xmms come in CLI version and play formats that Mplayer does not?

Opera is available for Redhat 6 (BL2 library). Add a later lib to

opera is adware/shareware... and it doesnt do CSS properly...
It has been free for a while (no ad banners either) and I don't care about CSS but it probably does that now too.

BL3.
Add a later kernel for USB. You stil have something much smaller than
Slackware.

i only install what i want from big distros my point was is that i can
install -from cd- not over the web... nor do i have to replace
anything i just install it....

But then you need a lot more drive space. My point was that you can use the same CD to install to BL.

I compiled Kermit for BL1/3 which has a good dialer, telnet, and ftp.
Microcom would not dial my bbs.

kermit is shareware.... and you dont need to use any dialer to dial a
bbs... ATDT phone# works just as well....

How do you do this, cat atdt.. > /dev/ttyS1?

You end up with something much larger that needs more hard drive and RAM
and takes longer to boot. And don't learn as much.

i didnt say install everything either... see below... install what is
wanted... but when its installed it wont be broken or stripped
ala-BL...

But most of the time the stripped version is all I want, and takes up much less space. I prefer to save space and spend time. Also it boots faster with a smaller linux partition.

Busybox telnet is easily replaced.

why replace when the real one can be installed in the first place.... see
below
See above.

So what are you using BL for?

i dont anymore (ive been lurking on this list for a -very- long
time).... i used it to -start out- in the linux world... which is
probably why i like to do my own custom installs/configs... i just
like having a full distro disk for the convienience of its data
contents.... pick and choose...

I have SW71 SW81 and SW91 CDs to choose from but am using only BL.

i have chopped up installs made out of redhat components... i hated
the default install the first time i tried it (i dont like eye candy..
i hated gnome.. and i -really- hated the autoconfigurators...) so i
uninstalled and redid it manually.... but i didnt have to deal with
-replacing-... all the -full- components were installed the first time
around...

Why pick Redhat and not Slackware then?
