The libraries would certainly be smaller with uClib.
However the libraries aren't really essental. You can
delete the entire /lib directory and BL3 will still boot.

The choice of libraries is arbitrary. Static binaries
(like the BL3 Xvesa) need no libraries, so a library-less
distribution is possible (but significantly bigger). I
put a library in BL3 for two reasons:
(1) to keep the size of BL3 binaries down
(2) to give users access to many packages (Slackware)

I choose libc5 because it is significantly smaller than
glibc2. Although uClib is even smaller, it doesn't fulfill
reason (2) above.
