In DOS, msp will play .wav, .mid and .mp3 files. DOSAMP also plays .mp3
files.

In linux I can only play .wav files (with sox or mplayer).

Is it likely I could play streaming mp3 in DOS using wget and dosamp or
msp?

No, not unless you fully download first, then play the file.
Remember, DOS is not multi-tasking.

Does | work in DOS?

Yes.

When I tried using the same script with dosamp that I used with mpg123
(wget -O http://..... | dosamp) then dosamp complained about not using the right format. I was able to download part of a streaming mp3 and then play it after I stopped the download. Dosamp did not even require that the file name end in .mp3.

Maybe DOS cannot multitask like this - wget and dosamp cannot be used at the same time. In which case I cannot do streaming audio in DOS, as people already told me.

This and scanning are the two main reasons I switched from DOS to linux.
So now I can use this computer to scan sheet music and print it, but it will not play internet radio for me.

Ron
