Most the links to streaming audio are wrapped in a sort
of menu file (.m3u, .pls, .ram, .asx). It's in text, so
open it with something that displays text and paste the
URL to the mplayer commandline.

I have not been able to extract actual links from .asx files, which are Windows Media. Have you? They just display the station name and not much else. I use lynx, maybe they need javascript?

In a couple of hours I found dozens of working radio
stations. Mplayer was able to play most of them. And,
as I discovered when I accidently put in the URL for a
TV station, mplayer does streaming video too. A truly
exciting piece of software.

Cheers,
Steven

What does streaming video look like over a modem connection? Have you found any TV stations worth watching? Any from Eastern Europe?

Now that you see some utility in using linux for sound, would you want to provide a small sound-capable kernel that at least supports sb16? I made my own, but it supports only the few ethernet cards that I have, and I made a few other changes to it. Pentium only.
