I have been trying to use an Adaptec isa scsi card for which I looked up the DOS driver (aspi2dos.sys) and the linux module (aha152x.o). It has jumpers for IRQ 9 10 11 12 and port address 140 or 340.

A DOS diagnostic program (syschk) says IRQ9 is IRQ2 cascade and IRQ12 is PS/2 mouse so I tried 10 and 11 but it won't install ("installation failed" as a device in config.sys). Win98 says 10 and 11 are taken by PCI bus, so we removed the PS/2 mouse and Windows seemed to be happy with IRQ12 and address 340 ('no conflicts') but Windows won't detect the attached scanner, which it is supposed to do (the scanner works on another Adaptec card).

I tried setting PNP/PCI in BIOS setup to IRQ12 legacy (to keep this IRQ from being used by PCI/PNP devices) but this did not help. There is no way to disable the PS/2 mouse port but I set it to auto instead of enabled and unplugged the mouse.

In linux I cannot insmod this module at all - "device or resource busy" - which, I read, means some IRQ or IO port conflict.

insmod aha152x io=340 irq=12

How do I tell which IRQs and ports are in use by linux? I read you are supposed to use syslog (how?) or dmesg (which lists the IRQs used by the comports, 3 and 4, and by the IDE controller, 14).

I tried a scsi kernel (SW81 adaptec.s and SW71 zipslack.s) with no success.

By the way, iw appears to require modprobe which BL does not have.

Might this card be bad?
