I'm sure it is possible, but I do not recommend it.
Life is much simpler if you run and compile on the
same library.

I doubt it. In most cases glibc2 binaries will
run at the same speed or slower than libc5 binaries.

Yes.

libc5 - the old standard
glibc2 - the current standard

Since glibc2 is the sixth version of the C library, it
can also be referred to as libc6. In the /lib directory
it is libc.so.6
