Hi Sindi,

I never had any problems like that. But then I never used doublespace
except to increase the effective
capacity of quite small hard drives.

This Norton Utilities is version 8.0 for Windows(3.1)/DOS,
with utilities upgraded to handle doublespace. Previous releases
would have scrambled doublespace drives.

What is EZ-Drive ? Same as doublespace ?

That, after help from Steven and others on the list, I can do it. And
after struggling for months with
first serial cable, then laplink parallel port movements, that a network card
is the only way to move
LARGE volumes of data.

Yes, unsuccessfully. :(

At the moment it is more irritation than urgent.

And I have mixed libraries, some added to support phoenix and some added
to support some other
applications (not always successfully of course).

I seem to remember adding stuff from deb and getting it to work OK.

I can only help if you can get hold of an original SB16 card. That's all
I know.

I suspect that it will come down to using the right mod, but I can
confirm
that it isn't the sb.o mod for a vibra16.

Quite a few hours. :)

Timidity plays MIDI and MOD, from the CLI or in an xterm, or as a helper
to emelfm (X)
and Links graphic (CLI).
(I haven't worked out how to add "helpers" to Netscape or Phoenix.
Anyone ? )

MPG123 plays MP3s from the CLI, and as a helper for emelfm and Links.

GQMPEG plays MP3s under X ( a front-end to mpg123 with playlist support,
skins).

QV plays AVI, MOV, QT and MPEG from the CLI, but without sound - still
under development.

MTV/MTVP plays MPEG under X, with sound. MTVP is freeware and runs on
calls from other
applications, while MTV is commercial-ware (US$10), and is stand-alone
with gui.

Xanim plays AVI under X, with sound.

RealPlayer8 (+ updates) plays RAM, RA, MP3 under X, with sound.

Workbone plays audio CDs from the CLI.

I also have VLC, which runs under X and claims to play DVDs (all zones)
as well
as streaming video from a LAN or by http. But I don't have a DVD drive, and I
have
only just started to play with a peer to peer network.

I got XINE to run, but at the cost of farkling my libraries. It took a
long
time to recover the system, and I am not in a hurry to try again. I will, but
maybe not on this machine. Xine plays all the things that mplayer does - AVI,
MOV, QT, MPEG,
RAM, RA, plus WMV, VIV, and many other obscure video formats.

First you need a DVD drive. :)

Then you can go to: http://www.videolan.org/ for VLC, or
http://www.dtek.chalmers.se/groups/dvd/slackware.shtml
for OGLE.

I cannot help you with Win9x - I know nothing about any of them, except
that my wife
has had all kinds of grief with them. I choose not to bother.

Regards,
Ron
