OK, that is where your problem is. Forget about lpd,
/etc/printcap, and lpr for the moment. Your problem
lies in your filter file (or in gs, which is executed
by the filter file).

What is the full pathname of your filter file?
Is that file executable?
Please send an exact copy of your filter file.
What is the actual name of your sample ps file?
Is it in the same directory you execute your direct print?
Have you installed both of these packages:
--------------------------
/slakware/ap1/ghostscr.tgz
/slakware/ap1/gsfonts.tgz
--------------------------
