Several things are in the glibc-kernel-headers that definitely aren't
normal:
1) it installs all headers, i386, ppc, sparc, ...

This is called multi arch kernel headers. It's what some other distro are using already (I looked at the Mandrake package). I had no problem compiling spells with those headers.

2) the /usr/include/asm it installs has files for /usr/include/mach-*,
those are supposed to be directories, and always have been as far as i
can tell

Don't know. Except the content of /usr/include/asm, other files are just those installed normally.

3) for some reason /usr/include/asm/mach-* don't get removed on dispel
of glibc-kernel-headers, leading to glibc cast failing when it tries to
copy the kernel headers

This bug has been reported here http://bugs.sourcemage.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7538, which you take care (but which is still not fixed in stable). So, it's like the kernel source missing bug, if you asked me to hide this problems, I think it's just again our social contract :-)

The ISO should always use stable grimoire and stable sorcery, as that's
what users are supposed to use after installing, and downgrading stuff
is not what we plan for when working on the grimoire.

OK. I'll document that on the wiki. I totally agree on that.
