Attn: Scrooge & Steve
Joao seems to be talking about people who think of themselves as being part
of a global permaculture movement
forming a NATO-like policy. When, for example, it comes to our attention by
way of available media outlets like this list,
that permaculture people worldwide should deploy some kind of delegation to
address particularly severe instances of human rights abuses
or natural catastrophies like earthquakes. The best way to do this is to
educate and otherwise empower those who might be at risk at any time
from political oppression or illegal military action worse, genocide.
There is a parallel to a genocide that happened in the 1970's.
We are in a new age of information, of gathering it and disseminating it.
Access to news and information in the past was only only a fraction of what
it is now.
You can imagine the scope and scale of alternative lifestyle/political
communities in the West during the 1960's and 1970's. Except for real hard
core human rights activists such as existed in San Francisco the rest of us
knew nothing about the plight of our friends and allies, colleagues and
fellow activists in Argentina. Henry Kissinger did though and he didn't
bother to consult with us before providing unlimited advice and support to
the Argentine military junta with full backing from his fools in the US
State Department. They wanted to know what to do with a surging (peaceful)
leftist movement in Argentina and were cnsidering a "purge". This followed
their genocide of marxist leftist rebels in rural areas who were violent.
He advised them to go forward with their plan but to get on with it and get
it accomplished as fast as possible. That they did. This was the Argentine
Dirst War and the era of the Dissapeared Argentinians. Obama visited
Argentina in the recent past and apologized for America's lack of attention
to the human rights aspects of their internal conflict. Could all people
in the permaculture movement of the sixties and seventies along with all
the alternative people, civil and human rights activists have done anything
to stop what happened in Argentina? What, if anything, can we as a global
community of permaculture do about the atrocities committed by the
government of china and their big money co conspirators?

I know this post is off topic and I do not want Joao's posts to cause
associated discussion to spiral out of control. I will apologize for
twisting the new rules
with a reference to my (our?) hero Ruth Bader Ginzburg's statement that
included: "I will be more circumspect in the future".

To those who want focused discussion of permaculture design and closely
related topics, don;t stand on ceremony, go ahead and post. Don't wait for
someone else to get the ball rolling.
