clearly-defined ownership rights, this is a system that has worked well and has satisfied their need to know that they have "rights" to the land they live and work on, something not in question and that they have to worry about. This applies to countries such as
Phillipines, Guatemala, Mexico and many more. Of course, in the recent past, unscrupulous types have on occasion sought to abrogate those rights. Various locations, possibly in Mexico, including Chiapas and Guerrero and definitely in Guatemala and Phillipines (see the "Golf Wars" documentary) are examples of common land agreements being violated by outsiders for their own profit.
