I'd be careful with where honey-locust is planted, as it's running roots go way past the drip line.  We have a honey-locust cultivar "shademaster" planted 1971ish we can't cut it down as it is our late summer day shade protection if we cut it down then we'd be looking at central air for the house.   I don't know if say, shagbark hickory has horizontally distant-exploratory roots but I'd think we'd be happier with it, or something else.   There will likely be in future a considerable negative financial impace from its exploratory roots getting all through the septic field.

I can't answer on Yellowhorn, but NAFEX does have a honeylocust interest group.

I like the trees, but the pods don't mature here in Oregon. At least not some of the better types such as Millwood. I've found lots of the species here, but have never found any with good, well matured pods.

Has anyone tried eating the fruit (nuts) of Xanthoceras sorbifolium?  How did you prepare them?  What did they taste like?
Second, are there any gleditsia enthusiasts out there?
