I would want Wilderness Advanced First Aid ("wafa") or Wilderness
First Responder ("woofer"). There is a significant difference in
philosophy between FR and WFR: namely, the AFA/FR model presumes
you are near civilization, and have equipment and supplies on
hand. The WAFA/WFR model presumes you are far from civilization
and lack equipment and supplies; it is all about improvization.

These courses tend to be expensive. WFR runs $400-$500 per
student with full enrollment. And most instructors with whom I
have dealt cannot possibly afford to teach them for less. It
is bad enough that if enrollment is not full, often the course
is cancelled. There are real costs involved, including fees paid
to the curriculum owner (eg, Wilderness Medical Associates).

Meaning the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's
National Standard Curricula for Emergency Medical Services?

First Responder: Nat'l Standard Curriculum (07/24/95)
Formats Available: PDF format: (frnsc.pdf, 720k) | MS
Word 7.0 format: (frnsc.doc, 1215k)
This is the 1995 release of the First Responder:
National Standard Curriculum. It contains the Course
Guide and Instructor Lesson Plan and it is designed
for instructors to teach the new First Responder course.

Hope this helps,
