I have a 2-year old Jang and agree with all comments so far: like it, wish it had a better/easier depth adjustment, and wish I had the latest model with the quick-release seed hopper and other new features.

I have the two-row 24-hole roller for carrots and like the results...although in my case I wish it planted in an even wider band with more carrots per row-foot because I grow and sell lots of baby carrots and I like to pack 'em in to increase volume/sales per bed and make harvest more efficient.  The past two seasons I have simply run down each row twice, running the seeder right next to the previous row and have been satisfied with the results.

Someone else mentioned that the Jang did not do as well with beets and I would tend to agree.  Results have been mixed...although better than I was getting with the Earthway.

Has anyone planted Hakurei turnips or Daikon radish with the Jang?  Which rollers?

Re the Jang and Carrots, it is a matter of deciding how many seeds you want to drop and what spacing. When the soil temp is low, more seeds need to drop in the cold soil for good germination. I was dropping one seed per inch and even that was not enough.

I bought some banded rollers where two rows of seeds will drop in a 1" band.  Any comments are appreciated.

The main carrot crop was Scarlet Nantes. I also did a bed of Milan and Danvers.

roller: X-24
but just as important as the roller is the sprocket selection for proper spacing. I'd have to go through my notes to find which sprockets I used for carrots.

Aaron, which Jang rollers do you use for which type of carrot?

I use the Jang seeder and am quite happy with it. What do you mean, "if one takes the time to do it"? Like any good tool, it takes a bit of time to learn how to use it efficiently but is worth the effort.
I didn't thin carrots this year. That is the best endorsement I could give for the Jang seeder.

I also have experience with the Earthway seeder. The Jang is superior, as you may expect, except when it comes to certain irregular seeds such as parsnip and certain beet seeds. Because of the odd shapes of these seeds they don't work well with a "precise seeder".

Also, you should expect to purchase a handful of seed rollers as these do not usually come with the seeder. That can add an extra $100-200.

Hello All,

I currently am using an Earthway seeder, but am planning on trying out a new "brand" for the upcoming season.  The ones I have been looking at are the European Push Seeder and the Jang Clean Seeder, both from Johnnys.  I'm wondering what experience you all have had using one or the other or both?  I have cohorts that really like the European Push seeder, but although more expensive, the Jang seems to be a more precise seeder (if one takes the time to do it).

Thanks in advance,
Ben
