I don't know if this will help, but I just read about a farmer who for the past 15 yrs has kept the deer from ruining her garden by planting one entire row of sweet potatoes. The garden is 50x250. The long length is what they plant, usually on the outside edge. That's enough for the deer population in their area. The deer like the sweet potato leaves so much that they leave the rest of the garden alone. One yr the lady only had space for a 1/4 row, and the deer ate her other stuff -- so it's a balance of having enough sweet potato plants to keep them happy. AND they do end up getting some sweet potatoes to harvest, too :-)
