What color mulch? I thought potatoes liked it cool, so does black work? I can visualize foliage covering the plastic after they’ve grown a good while, but are you transplanting in July for new potatoes? If so, how do you keep your sets?

Scott we have been using a water wheel transplanter to put in potatoes for a number of years, but we have been using it to put in our really early potatoes using plastic mulch for early growth.  Two rows on one 36" plastic mulch in beds, no hilling.  Has produced very nice potatoes with some really large ones at times.  Very easy to dig, most of the potatoes are just an inch of two under the plastic.  Quit doing potatoes any other way.  We plant around 2000# a year and plant some every month until they are all planted.
