I've done three rows for a 36" bed, one foot apart. I "off set" the center
row so that it's not even with the two outside rows. I generally get a good
yield of medium sized potatoes and some large one. The Yellow Finns are
generally the same medium size, purples vary greatly, and Yukon Gold are
mostly large. The little ones -- 1" in diaameter or so -- sell well at
Farmers' Markets and a specialty market I supply. Many of my CSA members
like the small ones, too, to put whole in stews or roasting whole with olive
oil, rosemary and garlic powder.
