Our farm is located on an island Northwest of Seattle; cool summers and
mild, wet winters (26 days of rain...several more forecast). Late blight
is a prennial problem. Our son lives in Eastern Washington near Moses
Lake, a very desert climate. He planted and raised a beautiful crop of
German Butterball under irrigation.
German Butterball is an indeterminate variety and is considered a late
potato, but is a very strong grower that blooms and starts setting tubers along
with earlier varieties and just keeps going.
Ronniger's at www.ronnigers.com is our favorite
source of seed potatoes. They are a small, family-operated farm specializing in
organic seed potatoes. They can give good advise and are easy to deal
with.
