Lucky me! Im getting a new super Walmart just one mile away!. Now I don't
have to drive 5 miles to the other super Walmart or the new super Loews
that's opening up next month across the street from Walmart and one half mile
down the road from a super Kmart. The nice thing about New Jersey is that
there are no shortages of places to spend your money and you don't have to go
far to fine a minimum wage job.
When Walmart came to the township we asked them why don't they build next
door on an abandoned shopping center that went broke, there was plenty of
land and a greyfield subsidy, they said no thank you they would rather pave
over 100 acres of flat tillable farmland. They did give us a concession, They
said they would maintain a rural look for the store to fit into the
agricultural heritage of my town, in other words the store will have a
"farmy" look, its even getting a silo!. Our local Gateway store tried that
with a fake Harvestore and went broke anyway. Ill bet the store workers will
have to ware overalls straw hats and say farmy things like ayup, nope and
yuck yuck yuck, just like real farmers do.
I am on the road to the new Walmart and hope to gain some new business at my
farm market I have a friend in the next county who has a store across the
street from his market/garden center/ gift store and is doing better than
ever, they are called Mom's Gifts and Pops Flowers... So much for mom and pop
stores going under...Bob.
