In old China there were often public human toilets build over their carp ponds for the same purpose. That is really even more necessary for sustainability than getting rid of chicken poop from birds that have been fed imported grains.

Gene Logsdon in his most recent book Holy Shit describes methods of feeding pond fish by setting chicken coops over them and letting the fish feed directly from the dropped poops.
