I would imagine there is a built-in GPS chip in the phone.  It would be nice to use this unit as a GPS as well.  If not I can always load RouteBuddy on the iPhone and use a Garmin eTrex as the GPS "head unit" to drive the maps on the phone.

Sweet.

The iPhone is beyootiful, but I think you hit the nail on the head
with "possibilities".

I travel a lot (I'm writing this during a lunch break in Louisville)
and I'm down to a phone (LG Fusic with Sprint) and my MacBook. The
phone makes calls and handles some data (address book, calendar) and
plays music (1GB MicroSD card support) but everything else handled by
the MacBook. In fact, the only time I'm away from easy access to a
computer/media player is when I'm on the road, and I always have my
MacBook at those times, so why would I want to watch videos, etc. on
a smaller screen?

But the iPhone runs OSX, and when the hackers get their hands on it,
it will become great. I am certain some amazing applications I am not
smart enough to think of will be written that will blow me away. The
potential is staggering.

As someone who bought a second gen iPod (the last without the
ubiquitous dock) I'll wait a year or two before getting an iPhone,
and will seriously consider it when my contract expires. But for the
moment I can wait.
