I saw this movie with the wife last night at the Carolina in CH. It was
excellent, IMO. Spurlock had 3 doctors, a nutritionist, and a fitness
person monitoring his health. I would say the movie is fairly
non-judgemental, actually, and doesn't say that any one thing is at fault
or that there is any one solution. Clearly big fingers are pointed at
McDonald's and the public who engage in such unhealthy eating habits, but
really it's just a presentation of fairly factual things. Sure there's an
agenda - the agenda is to show that McDonald's is helping to perpetuate a
culture of unhealthy, morbidly obese Americans, and they're doing it
relentlessly and they're starting at an early age. The movie also does
talk about how the goverment(s) could help with this issue, and that they
are not. Several visits to schools to discuss health issues and food
selection are really amusing, but I would definitely NOT characterize this
movie as presenting the "Nanny State" as a panacea for the problem of
obesity and ill health in America.

There are a number of points in the movie where I laughed out loud. Some
of them were genuinely funny moments, but a large number of other times I
laughed out loud because I was just incredulous about some of the
information Spurlock presents in the movie. $1.4b spent by McDonald's on
advertising, compared to $2m spent by the entire fruit/vegetable industry?
Zoiks. I do not know where he got the figures but frankly it didn't
surprise me. There's a humorous moment where 1st graders in Worcester, MA
schools can't identify a fairly traditional looking picture of Jesus but
every one got Ronald McDonald correct. Sure, there's no way to know how
manipulated that scene was by Spurlock, but frankly, again I wasn't
surprised. For crying out loud, I can't look left or right or listen to
the radio or watch TV without seeing fast food and McDonald's ads. I pass
a McDonald's no matter how I choose to go home. Sure some are a few
hundred yards out of my sight as I pass them by, but they are there,
nonetheless.

Very interesting movie. It further motivates me to continue to lose
weight, that's for sure.
