Thanks for the 'smelly' tip.

For as much as I dug in my heels, I actually like my job, for once. It is really nice to work for a 'green' company for a change. My coworkers are all competent and nice and my boss hasn't yelled at me yet, so all is good. I'm still not doing all that I was hired to do-- I'm just easing into more and more responsibility each week as I learn new things. My job is being created for me, by me, so to speak. I really can't complain, yet. When I get weighted down with lab projects, I suppose I'll start complaining, but not yet. One of my co-workers is also really into gardening, so at least there is a kindred spirit there when I miss playing in the dirt. He's introduced me to Japanese persimmons, and I'll be ordering one from Stark soon. He's also promised me a Pawpaw seedling. Woo hoo!

How is YOUR job going?

A while back, I put up scores of pints of beef, deer, etc. once I ran out of
room in the freezer. Canned meat makes a quick meal. I raw packed (cold
packed) most of the meat I put up, partly because I didn't have the space to
keep it properly while I cooked it bit by bit. Honestly, part of the reason
I raw packed was because I was too lazy to take the extra step. Putting the
meat up after it's been browned makes a nicer product, less shrinkage, nice
broth cover...

The first time I opened one of my jars I was surprised to find that meat
canned plain doesn't smell real yummy. Seasoned up, though, it's good
stuff.
