I have a 30 year class reunion coming up. If you don't mind, I'd

Ack! I hate reunions. I just had a reunion with my cousin, whom I
haven't seen in 45 years. I've often heard from her, mostly when her
husband became aide to the govenor or she got her law degree or they
bought a big new house or some such. Anyway, she looked about 10
years older than she is and has all sorts of stress-related
illnesses. She talked about her hectic life, I talked about
vegetables and cows :-) She grudgingly admitted that my lifestyle
must agree with me because I "look so good" (I think it's more that
she looks so bad; she's only 4 or 5 years older than me).

We are first having a mini-reunion on Facebook. I'm finding it to be
very interesting. Thirty years is a great equalizer, and as adults
there is an entirely different dynamic. I've been getting to know
people I hardly spoke to in high school. Success, like you say, is
measured differently. There is no longer any doubt who was real and who
was playing around. While those of us who were at the top of the class
haven't done poorly(I was co-valedictorian, tied for first in my class
of about 250 I think), the real stars are those who were back in the #15
down to about #30. People like me peaked a bit too early, I think, and
the others hit full stride at just the right time in their lives. They
still have the drive and education and they knew what they wanted out of
life. I respect anyone who can figure out what they want and go for it
from the age of 18. There are some guys who did not go to college, but
started their own businesses(like HVAC) and they are doing really well,
too. It is just interesting to see how people bloom, or not, over the
years, people who come from the same community as you, so who should
have and usually do have, similar values and such. Even more, it is a bit scary to see how many have cancer or have had other similar survival stories.
