The irony, Lynn, is that those who saw through Obama's veil before the
election, those who knew he would not keep his promises, were called
racist and branded as pariahs, even though their concerns had no bearing
on race. Concerning THE race, the man's campaign promise was all about
Change, and he talked about unity and change for the better, yada yada
yuk.. The thing is, in effect, he has created huge divisions in this
country that are not racial, but philosophical, and the fissures are
opening, not closing, I think. If you think there might have been a
race war or something similar, you are looking at maybe an 75/25 split
in the population. If you consider a philosophical war, at present, you
are looking at a 50/50 split, and the only precedent for resolving a
philosophical difference of that order happened 150 years ago, and in my
mind, did not end justly or cleanly with respect to state's rights
concerns. There is a scene in Firefly where Reynolds is taunted for
being on the wrong side in the Unification War. He says something to
the effect of 'Yeah, I fought on the losing side, but that is not the
same as fighting on the wrong side.' It is a point that the victors in
war like to forget. It is just that we all never want to look at
ourselves naked in the mirror. Unfortunately, if we don't find the
courage to look at our flaws and failed hopes and dreams in a realistic
way, not an idealistic way, then when we finally do get around to making
any kind of move, it may be too little, too late to affect any kind of
change. First your philosophical convictions must be strong, and you
must respect the other side's views. You have to figure out how to make
the other side happy without giving up too much of what is core to your
own being. (Most people don't even know what they believe-they just
follow the crowd). Once you can realistically draw up a compromise,
then you can affect change that is meaningful to all. Change. Funny.

I know that many of you aren't giving up hope on President Obama, and I
suppose there is even a part of me that is still trying to keep Hope
alive with Secret CPR<g>, but of those of you who supported him, loved
him, supported the Democratic platform in this last election, is there
anyone on this list who has the courage to say "I'm
disappointed/dissatisfied/discouraged with the Obama Presidency so far"
or, is everyone still, shall we say, under his 'spell'?

Tell me what our President has accomplished that I can be proud of...

Part Two...
I think everyone knows I'm fairly conservative in my views and I've been
pretty tough on liberals here on the list. I'd like to take this
opportunity to say that while I was never a Kennedy supporter or fan, I
highly respect Senator Kennedy's contribution to American politics and
our country. Life as we know it would be very different had Joseph
Kennedy not encouraged his sons to enter politics. The First Kennedy
Era is over, and as a final tribute, it looks like any kind of
healthcare bill will bear Uncle Teddy's last name. I suppose he would
like that tribute, and I suppose it is earned, if the bill is roughly
his and not roughly Obama's. Anyway, I have to admit that Senator
Kennedy for all the scandal and drinking jokes in his life and career,
did make the world, and our country, a better place. That's my opinion
and judgment on the total effect of his career. Of course, I haven't
followed politics except for the last 15 years or so, so I could be
wrong. In my mind, if he in any way, contributed to peace in Northern
Ireland, then that erases a lot of crap. He can now enjoy his drinks in
the big Irish Pub in the Sky, because it wasn't blown to bits. The
drinks are on the House Teddy, rest in peace, and thanks for serving
your country. We await the beginning of the Second Kennedy Era and who
can say what changes that will bring. Three hundred years from now, if
we are around, students will read about how the Kennedy family
influenced change-positive and negative, in America, the way we now read
Thomas Jefferson, the Federalist papers and other Founding Fathers
thoughts about what our country should be. They are rewriting the Poli
Sci books faster than I can type this.

Bev, who often wonders why the poor are so often satisfied living on the
crumbs-the charity of those with money, instead of going out and making
themselves independent of the system.

Leslie; Thanks for the link. I'm about an hour into the video; it's well done (and I generally don't like conspiracy theories). I think it's a little early in Obama's term to write him off completely, but I agree that so far he's broken almost every promise he made. Filling
his administration with bankers and openly funneling money to banks
certainly is in keeping with the "banker conspiracy" theory. And
stupid people keep playing their game and giving Wall St. their money. Write to your Rep. to support Ron Paul's "audit the fed" bill.
