The Russians did the same thing, pouring blood and money into a war that could not be won while ignoring the needs of their people. That didn't turn out well, and neither will our recent wars.

I think you are right.

I know Obama is despised by many here, but his diplomacy has been far
better than Bush's. It remains to be seen if it is not too little,
too late. Regardless, as a country we won't crumble immediately, but
we are at a point where we are stepping onto a very slippery slope.

I don't despise President Obama. I'm glad you brought this up though.
You obviously follow the foreign relations aspect of his presidency
better than I do. I know he has traveled a good bit over the last 7
months or so. Can you be specific about diplomatic gains he has made in
his travels? I know Moammar is coming, and I know he has talked some
about Gaza and such, but what real gains have been made and how will
things like having a Moammar pitch his tent here benefit the US long term?
I can think of one thing, for better or worse-probably the better-that
his Presidency has done, and that is to relax relations with Cuba.
Hopefully, before he is done, we can normalize relationships there. I
see that as benefiting the US in a lot of ways, including trade and
immigration, maybe even emmigration. Perhaps Raul could act as a
intermediary between the US and Chavez, iron things out there, too. I
mention this because I want you to realize that I DO look at the good,
but sometimes it is hard for me to find it in a liberal administration,
and your idea of what's good will probably be different than mine, and
visa versa. So, if I can just look through your glasses for a moment...
