I'm in the same situation as Rob...in fact, I was offered a horse for free...(Ron said no<g>..drats!) the problem is that the mare has foundered in the past, and according to her owner, she must see the farrier three or four times a year for work and shoes...I had the same thought as Rob about breeding her, but I'm told that would kill her as her hooves wouldn't hold up. do you agree with that assessment?

Does a draft horse need to be shod if working on dirt, not pavement?
What about a gravel road?

No. And no.

In fact it's not a good idea.
