We've had large animals worth tens of thousands. We still didn't have vets out. We went to the vet. Truck and trailer. And that was rare. For example, I don't geld horses but I have been known to put 123 stitches in a horse that was run by dogs.

What is important is *knowing* large animals and *knowing* how to do it yourself. Part of that knowing is knowing anatomy. You buy a little Jersey heifer with a narrow pelvis and then breed her to a horned Hereford bull and you'll have problems. Knowledge is the thing.

I just read Jame's response and now yours. I am honestly surprised. I thought that vets were important when you have large animal husbandry/livestock. A big cow or horse or even a great big hog, can be worth a lot of money? .............bobford
