I library does not force me to read, or tell me what it is I have to read, or
hunt me down if I don't read.?
Providing an opportunity for it's populace to learn and grow could be
ostensibly construed to be a function of ANY government, not only a socialist
one.?? And, most libraries are local, providing mor local input, and control..

Something about this books thread has been nagging at me and I finally
got it.
A substantial percentage of us on this homesteading list treasure
books and have large, personal libraries. Some of us even think of our
book walls as insulation. I did a quick calculation and figured that,
even with small rooms and an average-over-the-years of ten bucks per
book, such a wall could easily represent ten thousand dollars.
Now then. Consider all those people who love to read but can't afford
even a portion of that expenditure for books.
Then consider that public libraries fill that need.
Then consider that public libraries, Andrew Carnegie notwithstanding,
are examples of socialism, a condition much decried here.
