One of my "dreams", if you will, is to try to develop an integrated
curriculum, utilizing music and art training to teach all of the "core"
subjects.   I do a lot of that in my classes, but perhaps as a principal, I
can try to develop a "charter" school that will explore that possibility more
fully.

Cool!
'd guess you would see a lot of smokers in your current gig, so feel
ree to use my story as a cautionary tale, not that I could have ever
een great or earned a living or anything like that, but smoking robbed
e of enjoying singing the way I could have. I have never even had the
uts to do Karaoke, for example, but I know had I not destroyed my
oice, I would have. What fun that would be.
r. Ray, I made all A's in high school, except for 3 classes. One was
river's Ed...I was speeding on the final exam and thereby ended up with
B in the class because I failed the final. The second was Home Ec,
nd the third was Chorale. The instructor had a policy that if you did
ot continue with training, you would drop one letter grade...Of course,
had no interest in music at the time-too much of a science nerd, and I
ulled the B there as well. I recall that he was angry that I did not
ontinue-called my folks and everything....lol.
y next real chance at learning anything came in college when I worked
s a stage manager for the pop vocal group. I worked closely with the
usic director, and she knew that I enjoyed singing and I got some
nformal lessions, but that was about the time I started smoking, and
ell, it was just one of those opportunities I blew. Back then, I don't
hink I saw the link between music, math, and metered verse. Now, the
ore interdisciplinary I can make something the better I learn. The lack
f music instruction is one of my biggest regrets in life, not that I am
oo old to learn, but I do believe, that like learning a foreign
anguage, there is a prime window of opportunity that the young possess.
hen I was singing yesterday, I realized that I am breathing differently
nd projecting better and clearer, but it just isn't right, and I know
t. I wish someone like you lived closer and could tell me exactly what
need to do.

So Ray, all I know is that you are a music teacher...that's a broad
area here...can you narrow it down for us a bit? Bev, listening to
Bach's Cantata BMV 208 at present, next up Peer Gynt
