Just switching to pastured animals would free up the need for tons of
grain. And grain is one of the things where I think large farms have the
advantage over small farms. Grazing/haying land is far more ecologically
sound than raising grain for animals, and marginal land that isn't
useful for much else can become decent pasture. Imagine the benefits of
having more locally-raised meat...no more huge centralized meat packers,
no more feedlots, no trucking meat around the country.

I've read many studies that show that smaller farms produce more per
acre than large farms. Millions of small farms could easily feed this
country, but we'd need millions of farmers. Wanted: people who will do
physical labor for many hours a day and earn very little money. With no
paid vacation or health insurance benefits. Hmmm...
