Yes, he did. I was referring to the actual organization of the Mormon church, which was in April of 1830.

According to the historical record, in 1820, Joseph Smith (age 14) saw a vision of God the Father, and Jesus Christ, side by side.
In 1823, an angel, named Moroni, (not a chameleon <g>) visited him several times, and these visits culminated in Joseph Smith recieving golden plates, that he later translated into the Book of Mormon.
The Pearl of Great Price came later, and was a translation of scrolls that came with a mummy. Because of JS prior translation, he was asked by the owners of the mummy to transate the scrolls, which he did.

You had a first edition? I hope you were satisfied with the trade.

Yeah, I've heard that both Brigham, and Jesus, were bearded, along with John Taylor, Wilford Woodruff, Lorenzo Snow, Joseph F Smith, Heber J. Grant, and George Albert Smith. In fact, up until 1951, when David O McKay became the prophet, all Mormon prophets were bearded. Don't worry, though. I'm quite sure I will never be the prophet ;-)

So, yes, your memory was good

Ray

Didn't he see Moroni or another angel or a chameleon or something in 1823?
I had a first edition of "A Pearl Of Great Price" (1851),and some other assorted
bound pamplets, a number of years ago. Traded it to a guy in Utah for some
books I wanted. And, yes, I knew what I had ,and its value, considering its
condition.

Didn't Brigham Young have a beard? I'm ceratin I've seen a photo <g> of Jesus
wearing a beard, too.

Christians are no different than any other group with a point of view. They
have simply been more effective. And, no one, regardless of belief or
non-belief, would argue with the actual teachings of Christ.

Look up when Mr. Smith met that angel. You would know more than I would, but I
believe I remember the date correctly (of course I called my mother in March for
her birthday, which is actually in May --messesd up with the
"M's").......bobford

Actually, that would be 1830. ;-)

Seriously, Mormons had to deal with that same intolerance
from
"christians" around them. Persecution was the
reason they left the
US, and went to Utah. That is one thing that is so
infuriating about
where I live now. "Utah Mormons" are some of
the most intolerant
people I know. They should know better. Mormons
elsewhere are much
more of the "Live and let live" types, although
there are always
exceptions.

It's funny, but I have long hair and a beard. I am
always getting
strange looks from people, particularly in church. I
actually had
some one tell me once that if I was ever selected to be a
Bishop, I
would have to cut my hair, and be clean shaven. My
response was, "No,
I won't. God knows I have a beard, and the long hair.
If he wants
me, he gets me, hair and all. If the long hair
disqualifies me, well,
that's all right too".

The conversation kinda just ended there.

I have no desire to ever be a Bishop... ;-)

But no, I think christianity, as a whole, is no longer in
the mindset
it was. The same can't be said for all individuals,
though.

Ray
