We eat local as best mainly because it supports local business (ie: family)
which is more sustainable than buying whatever at the grocery trucked in
from California (we live in VA). Some local food business owners I know and
some I don't. The food is fresher than food bought anywhere else, most being
organic or 'no spray.' Prices are reasonable.

It may not be healthier though freshly harvested food retains more vitamins
and minerals.
