Hi Tom...that small firebox would have perked my ears up right off the
bat...:-) and stopped me from buying the stove...:-) I hope you cut your own
firewood...:-) I would put the stove on Craig's List...sell it... and buy
myself a stove more suited to your needs. Might even give some thought to a
pellet stove. Franklin

and speaking of pellets, is there any good reason not to burn pellets in
a regular woodstove?

Does anyone have experience, good or bad, with having burned wood
pellets in a regular woodstove?

Recently I managed to crush 3 vertebrae and find handling big wood
difficult, at least for the time being. I use a homemade stove, takes a
26" stick, made from an anhydrous ammonia tank. Looks pretty funky but
functions very well, with a good clean burn and a huge capacity.

Recently I got the idea of using pellets in it. Guy where I got a bag
of them said it won't work, but I got the bag anyway. Laid a 4" layer
of scrap wood on the bottom (for air access), then about a 4" layer of
pellets, then repeated that. Lit it on top since my damper is at the
top of the stove; my thinking was that if it burned down instead of up,
the whole thing would be less likely to 'cave in' and occlude air from
the burn pile. Last night wind was blowing like crazy, sucking air out
everywhere, I decided to load the sucker up. Put the scrap/pellet mix
in with 20 lb pellets (half a bag): this morning thr burn was finished
but stove was still hot, there was very little ash and although I sifted
it, could find no unburned pellets.

Does anyone know any good reason I shouldn't burn pellets this way?
